A rather shaky plank and suspension bridge across a local river in Imphal

            It's simple things like this that fascinate me on my travels. Along the nearly seven hour drive from Imphal airport to Pharung village in Manipur, NE India, the gentleman driving suddenly turned off the highway saying this is a short cut which will shave off at leas tone hour on the drive to the village. But that was a mostly unsealed road, and whatever tarmac that was there was- well the road equivalent of pixelated!. This was apparently the old highway which has been left to rot subsequent to building of a new road- which was frankly no better! On the short cut road, we came across thos precarious timber planks and rope pedestrian bridge acrss a pretty wide river. For me it took nerves of steel to even approach the bridge, let alone cross it- the middle portion of this bridge was actually made of rope, which was swaying a lot in the breeze, with the sheer width of the river only adding to the wind and the consequent swaying.
