Several tubes of Khao Lam are being cooked

            Several tubes of Khao Lam (sticky rice cooked in bamboo tubes) are being cooked behind the stall where we had stopped to pick up a couple. I am on my way from Siem Reap, Cambodia to Kompong Phluk floating village, situated on the mighty Tonle Sap lake. (we will talk about that when we get there shortly- see subsequent pictures later in this album). It was a nearly one hour drive by tuk tuk to Roulous village from where we would take a boat for a nearly hour long boat ride around the floating village. And then another one hour ride back to Siem Reap. Due to the early start and the prospect of a delayed lunch, my kind driver guide very kindly stopped by to pick up a couple of tubes of Khao Lam, sticky rice cooked in bamboo tubes. My tuk tuk driver apparently knew the lady running the stall as he picked her stand from amongst several lined up along the freeway. Taking advantage of my tuk tuk guy's familiarity with the lady running the stand, I got off the vehicle (I had to stretch my legs too anyway) to look at the lady's work station behind the stall, where we was actually cooking up Khao Lam, which as it turned out later (when we had it) was super delicious. Khao Lam is sticky rice in bamboo and is a common Southeast Asian dish consisting of sticky rice roasted inside specially-prepared bamboo sections of different diameters and lengths. It is consumed both as a savory food and as a sweet dessert. This particular one was savoury, and if my memory serves me right, also had a few pieces of Bengal gram in it.
