Remark: A skiing site, called Tamarack Ski Area, once existed for a short period of time on the east side of Moscow Mountain, northeast of Moscow, Idaho, and approximately six miles west of Troy, Idaho. The ski area was also commonly referred to as the Moscow Mountain Ski Area.

The Tamarack Ski Area was formed by a group of residents from Moscow in 1966 at an elevation of 4,000 feet. The facility included diesel-powered rope and T-bar lifts, an A-frame lodge, and a parking area. The land was owned by the City of Troy. The vertical drop was about 600 feet.

Financially, the Tamarack Ski Area was a failure. Plowing the road to the site was costly. And more troubling was the fact that snow conditions were poor soon after opening. Bankruptcy resulted in 1970. A few attempts to revive the site as a ski area were made, but none were financially successful. The facility's last season took place in 1978.

Latah County seized the facility's leasehold improvements (building and equipment) due to a tax lien. The building and equipment were put to auction by the county in February 1992, but no offers met the  minimum bid of $21,000.

After suing the leaseholders, the City of Troy and Latah County entered into an agreement whereby the City of Troy paid the tax lien on the building and equipment after the sale of the T-bar lift.

The A-frame structure was removed, including its foundation, and the City of Troy sold the ski lift to Cottonwood Butte, a small ski facility near Cottonwood, Idaho, for a profit. Visual evidence of the ski are is now difficult to observe.
