almost mythical

            we've been hanging/walking around the streets of the shirakawa area for nearly an hour, hoping to run into a geisha or maiko on her way out but it seemed our luck was limited to the fake ones (like us, haha) strolling around in the early evening.

quite disappointed, we decided to head back and get dressed since we still had to scout for a place to have dinner.

and then my friend spotted her. she was walking ahead of us, about a block away. i wasn't sure at first but when Tere shouted "run!", i realized she was the real thing! so there i went -- running as fast as i could -- all poise and grace that came with the kimono gone in a second.

she got into a cab and luckily, stayed to wait for her other companions. i was dying to get a shot up close, but i didn't want to be intrusive so i kept my distance and walked past the cab towards the corner and as stealthily as i could, took photos from behind a post with my long lens. quite useless of course, as i was really in plain sight and wearing a kimono at that. the oka-san apparently saw me, and judging from her amused smile, it's safe to say i did look pretty silly. i don't care though -- i was both giddy and in awe; i just saw a real-life maiko and geisha and it felt like catching mythical creatures on camera.
