SC 337380 - (409th Task Force photo series) Here, infantrymen advance across the road and over a fence towards the enemy positions. 1 May, 1945.

            Entering Austria, tanks of the 781st Tank Bn., tank destroyers of the 614th TD Bn., and infantry of the 409th Inf. Regt., 103rd Div., all part of a task force spearheading the division's drive into Austria, met the first organized resistance when German troops (students at an OCS nearby) took positions in the high mountains at the German-Austro border and tried to prevent the Task Force's entry into Austria. The Task Force is firing at German positions with rifles, machine guns and 75mm guns mounted on tanks.
