It was very difficult for me to take this picture back in March 2011.
A couple days after my grandma died in a house fire. I went back to the house to take some pictures. My parents could not spend a long time in the house because they were still very emotional about the situation. And we realized after being in the house for maybe 5 minutes, that the air was extremely bad for us, our eyes started to burn and our throat started to itch and hurt.
We had to leave. 
I decided to buy a mask with filters and go back the next day.

It was very quite in the house, but it did not feel peaceful at all. The kitchen was totally destroyed, chunks of melted items everywhere. The fridge where the fire started, was  a  small unrecognizable little cube.
I wandered around from room to room and had a very hard time to start to take pictures.
After quite some time, I still had not taken even one shot yet, I put my film camera away and started to take some pictures with my digital camera. I usually never do that but at least I started to take pictures. 
After I took some pictures with the digital camera I was calm enough to take some pictures with my film camera.

Breathing with the mask was very uncomfortable. Every time I looked through the viewfinder I bumped into the camera with the big filters attached on the left and right side  of the mask.
The exposure time was long, it was dark, everything was covered with layers of soot. 
I only took a few pictures with my film camera, it was tough for me, but I had to do it. 
I knew the next time I will be back in Germany everything would be gone....forever…
