White throated kingfisher - a photo on Flickriver

            With a crab plucked from a rice paddy, Tangalle, Sri Lanka

This is the first of many Sri Lankan birds I will be posting from our recent trip there in November 2014.

I want to thank Jagath Perera, our guide and driver throughout our time in Sri Lanka, for his excellent ability to get me where I needed to be to track down some birds.  He has a very keen eye and often spotted birds I had missed.  This shot was due to Jagath's remarkable patience in ferrying me up and down a causeway near this rice paddy.  We used the car as a blind and eventually this was the result.  

I have no hesitation recommending Jagath to anyone travelling to Sri Lanka, both for birds or just on a holiday.
