This detail shows the “predella” beneath the feet of the apostle Saint Andre, one of the twelve individual and stunningly beautiful enamels created by Leonard Limosin on display at the Musee des Beaux Arts, Chartres, France

            Painted enamels, copper and wood

These enamels were ordered in 1545 by François l and executed in 1547 by Léonard Limosin on Michel Rochetel's cardboard.

After the death of François l, they were delivered by the artist to the castle of Saint-Germain-en-Laye to King Henry II, who immediately donated them to Diane de Poitiers for the chapel of the Château d'Anet.

After the confiscation of the Anet estate during the Revolution, the enamels were placed in 1802 in the chapel of the Virgin of the church of Saint-Père-en-Vallée in Chartres (current Saint-Pierre church).

In 1939, faced with the dangers of war, they were again displaced and deposited in a safe place with the treasure of the cathedral.

In 1950, by decision of the Ministry of National Education, they were deposited at the Museum of Fine Arts in Chartres.
