This one is the lighthouse located more to the east of the Iberian Peninsula. Located in a devastating and isolated place, of extraordinary beauty, at the moment their environs are a natural park. It is at 500 meters of the end of the cape, on a black cliff, with a complicated and escarped orography, known with the name "the end of the back", that falls to the sea forming several rustic coves and an island, the Encalladora, separated by a narrow channel.

The lighthouse, at 87 meters of height, is lashed by winds of tramontane and East and gives light and is coastal datum point in one of the hardest zones for navigation in the Catalan coast. A great building, now turned information bureau of the natural park, surrounds the installation, that in essence is a tower of 11 meters of height.

It started to operate in the night of July 29 of 1853. It is the second older lighthouse of Catalonia, inaugurated 19 months after the lighthouse of the Llobregat, which demonstrates its convenience and necessity when constructing it, since it is in strategic geographic point of the peninsular coast, which caused that it was included in the first program of the system of lightshouses designed by the government of Isabel II.

In the month of October of 1937, in the heat of civil war, an attack made unusable the optics of the lighthouse, being in the dark until the end of the fight, which demonstrates its strategic paper.

In decade of the Sixties this lighthouse, and his model to scale reduced, constructed near him, was scene for filming and shooting of several films of adventures and pirates, like titled “The Light at the Edge of the World”, based on novel of Jules Verne, which it narrates the history of a lighthouse that disorients the navigators, to make them imprisoned. It was directed in 1971 by Kevin Billington and starred by Kirk Douglas and Yul Brynner. Also this zone has been source of inspiration of painters and poets, surrealists and of vanguard, European and American.

Es el faro situado más al oriente de la península Ibérica. Ubicado en un paraje desolador y aislado, de extraordinaria belleza, actualmente sus alrededores son un parque natural. Se encuentra a 500 metros de la punta del cabo, sobre un acantilado negro, con una orografía complicada y escarpada, conocido con el nombre de la punta de la Esquena, que cae al mar formando varias calas agrestes y una isla, la Encalladora, separada por un angosto canal o freu.

El faro, a 87 metros de altura, está azotado por los vientos de tramontana y levantes y da luz y es punto de referencia costero en una de las zonas más duras para la navegación en la costa catalana. Un gran edificio, ahora convertido en oficina de información del parque natural, rodea la instalación, que en esencia es una torre de 11 metros de altura.

Entró en funcionamiento en la noche del 29 de julio de 1853. Es el segundo faro más antiguo de Cataluña, inaugurado 19 meses después del faro del Llobregat, lo que evidencia su conveniencia y necesidad al construirlo, ya que está en un punto geográfico estratégico de la costa peninsular, lo que hizo que se incluyera en el primer programa del sistema de faros diseñado por el gobierno de Isabel II.

En el mes de octubre de 1937, en plena guerra civil, un ataque inutilizó la óptica del faro, quedando a oscuras hasta el final de la contienda, lo que evidencia su papel estratégico.

En la década de los años sesenta este faro, y su modelo a escala reducida, construido cerca de él, fue el escenario para el rodaje y la filmación de varias películas de aventuras y piratas, como la titulada “El faro del fin del mundo”, basado en una novela de Julio Verne, que narra la historia de un faro que desorienta a los navegantes, para hacerles presa. Fue dirigida en 1971 por Kevin Billington y protagonizada por Kirk Douglas y Yul Brynner. También esta zona ha sido fuente de inspiración de pintores y poetas, surrealistas y de vanguardia, tanto europeos como americanos.
