The Art of Richard MacDonald presented by Cirque du Soleil, The City Center, Las Vegas, Nevada

If you've never heard of the neo-figurative movement, you're probably not alone. But that doesn't change the fact that Richard MacDonald is shaking things up with his gallery inspired by the wonders of Cirque du Soleil. Play-Doh may be the extent of your sculpting knowledge, but you don't have to know a single thing about art to figure out why he's celebrated all over the world.

We can't imagine a more striking subject matter than the superhuman and epically bendy Cirque performers. MacDonald used these acrobats, dancers and contortionists to capture the essence of their movements, making sure to incorporate the muscle mass that most Americans don't have. Not only will you wonder how the models got into those poses, but also how MacDonald re-created them so perfectly.   

More than 50 bronze sculptures are featured in the gallery at the "O" Theatre, some of which took eight years to finish. When you see them, you'll know why. Because of his appreciation for the grace, strength and poise of the entertainers, many of his pieces are set at angles that will definitely make you cock your head to one side. They will also have you rethinking that cupcake you had for lunch.  

MacDonald's art can be found in the "O" Theatre lobby, near the Bellagio Conservatory and in Gallery Row, just across the bridge and outside of Crystals at CityCenter.
