The Town of Westover Hills is located six miles west of downtown Fort Worth and north of I-30. It encompasses 445 acres and, in 2015, had a population of 721. One of the first homes was built in 1931 by then Mayor John E. Farrell; today there are 277 residences in Westover Hills. In 1937 efforts began to establish Westover Hills as a municipality, and by 1939 the town had officially separated from Fort Worth. The roads were paved in the 1940s. The new Town Hall, constructed as a New Deal era Works Progress Administration (WPA) project, was dedicated on November 7, 1940. Pictured at the dedication are, seated, from left, Mrs. John E. Farrell; H. P. Drought of San Antonio, State Director of the WPA; Mrs. Fritz Lanham and Congressman Fritz Lanham; and Mrs. Karl E. Wallace; standing are Mayor Farrell and Mr. Wallace, WPA District Director. Two identical one-lane bridges on Roaring Springs Road, spanning the creek flowing through Roaring Springs Park, were also built as WPA projects. Among prominent former residents of Westover Hills are golfer Ben Hogan; architect Wyatt C. Hedrick; Guy L. Waggoner; Anne Burnett Tandy, granddaughter of Samuel Burk Burnett; pianist Van Cliburn; and architect and engineer Preston Geren Sr.
