Garcinia gardneriana, the bacupari, is an evergreen, dioecious species of the genus Garcinia. It is distributed throughout South America's Amazon Basin and produces fruit with edible arils. In Brazil there is currently research to use this fruit to combat cancer. Synonimous: Garcinia brasiliensis var. parvifolia Mart.; Garcinia gardneriana (Planch. & Triana) Zappi; Rheedia brasiliensis (Mart.) Planch. & Triana; Rheedia gardneriana Planch. & Triana and Rheedia spruceana Engl. This fruit is delicious and remember the taste of a mangosteen but of course one third of the size. In the state of Sao Paulo in Brazil it is getting spread and it is more common to be seen. It produces a lot of fruit and it is still something new that people are not used too. But the flavor is really delicious although to the little size it is harder to eat than that of the regular mangosteen. A fruit tree native to Brazil that produces copious amounts of yellow fruit with edible arils that have a sweet, pleasantly acidic taste and are said to have good anti-cancer properties. It is well known in Brazil as "bacupari" or "mangostão-amarelo" and is a very adaptable plant that will grow in any tropical or warm temperate climate and even take an occasional light freeze.

O fruto do Bacupari pode ser encontrado no Brasil da região Amazônica ao Rio Grande do Sul. Hoje em dia é muito difícil encontrar uma árvore dessa fruta, principalmente em regiões urbanas. O viveiro Manequinho Lopes, do Parque do Ibirapuera em São Paulo, recebeu em julho de 2008 a doação de duas mudas com aproximadamente 1,0m de altura e 2,5 anos. Recentemente foi pesquisado pela especialista Maria das Graças Lins Brandão, professora da Faculdade de Farmácia da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), que a fruta tem alto valor de ingredientes anti-oxidantes e anti-cancerígenos.

Bacuparí (Garcinia gardneriana) es una especie perennifolia dioica del género Garcinia. Se la encuentra por la zona de la cuenca del Amazonas en América del Sur y produce frutos con arilos comestibles. En Brasil se realizan investigaciones sobre el uso del fruto como una fuente para combatir el cáncer. ​ En investigaciones de laboratorio se ha establecido que determinados compuestos químicos extraídos de la hojas de esta planta tienen efectos antiinflamatorios, analgésicos y antibacterianos. Garcinia: nombre genérico que fue otorgado en honor del botánico francés Laurent Garcin (1683-1752). brasilensis: epíteto geográfico que alude a su localización en Brasil.
