Ceratodon purpureus (Ditrichaceae) - a photo on Flickriver

            The bright red setae help in the identification of this confusing moss.

Growing on concrete paving on an old footbridge over the Water of Leith, south-west of Harperrig Reservoir.

In recent weeks David Chamberlain has been leading bryophyte recording excursions covering sections of the Water of Leith.  On this occasion we walked up to the source of the river on the south-west slopes of the Pentland Hills, south of Balerno.
