Shoveler m eclipse

            I spent a bit of time practising my ducks-in-flight at Greylake - there's not much to show for it as the light was poor, but this one is interesting. It's a male shoveler in eclipse plumage, which seems surprising because it's late November and most, if not all, the male shovelers are now back in breeding plumage. Also the whole point of eclipse plumage is to provide camouflage for the bird when it has just moulted and can't fly. This one can clearly fly!
