Havasu Creek - Beaver Falls - a photo on Flickriver

            Some friends and I took a trip to the Havasu Falls area in 2019. This is a picture of the back pool near Beaver Falls. You can reach Beaver Falls by hiking a couple miles down Havasu Creek past the main camping areas. 

My thoughts on Havasu Falls are complicated. The falls, the hike in through the desert canyons and spots like the one pictured are stunning. All that beauty however is offset by overcrowding. 

We stayed at the typical campground between Havasu and Mooney falls. It was late October and weather was forecast to drop into the low 30s on some nights. It was the off season and it was cold. Even so the camping areas were crowded and overfilled. Signs of inconsiderate campers and the trash left behind by our predecessors was everywhere. Keep in mind this was the off season when it was to cold for swimming. This special place is being loved to death. 

The falls are on Havasupai Indian land, and access to the falls and camping permits are controlled by the Havasupai Tribe. The tourists that visit the falls are a major source of income for the Havasupai people. Because of this its hard for me to be to critical about the environmental impact occurring in this place. So like I said my thoughts on Havasu Falls are complicated.
