Kelly - a photo on Flickriver

            Kelly was sitting on the northwest corner of Michigan and Randolph.  It wasn't raining (yet), but there was a stiff 30 mph wind blowing.  She's been on the street since March.  She either sleeps on the bus, train, or outside.  She's planning on going to Arizona to live with her mom.  "My dad's a heavy gambler", she said, so she doesn't have much contact with him.  But her mom is hoping to get a one bedroom apartment, so Kelly can stay there too.  "I don't want to get my hopes up", she said, but it's what she hopes she can do.  The message she wants to convey is that "people discriminate against homeless people".  If you don't look presentable, they treat people poorly.  She experiences this on a regular basis.  "People don't believe I'm homeless".  She has done medical billing and customer service, "but no waitressing", she said with a smile.
