19th century photo of three children possibly of the Palmer family taken in Alabama, United States? This copy of the photo belonged to Stella Palmer Hotz of Fayetteville, Arkansas. This original photo was copied by Curtis Strand of Strands Studio in Rugby, ND. The original was returned in 1971. Curtis Strand was a nephew of Henry and Stella Hotz.

"Thomas Waverly Palmer married at Union Springs Alabama December 22 1886 Lulu Rainer daughter of Capt Joel Herron and Roxana Ellis Rainer H Rainer her father was a Confederate with a distinguished record being wounded three times in battle was cited on several occasions and to the rank of major although all his life merely as captain After the war he became a successful cotton planter banker and merchant and lived to be eighty two years of age Mrs Palmer president of the Alabama Division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy 1925 1927 Doctor Mrs Palmer had five children two of whom died in infancy The other three Stella, Thomas Jr., and Lulu have had college and university and all like their father were elected on scholarship record to the Phi Beta Kappa hon fraternity Three grandchildren survive Doc Palmer at his death Thomas Waverly Pal III James Meehan Palmer of New York City and Henry Palmer Hotz of Fayetteville Arkansas."

College Doctor Palmer was born May 19 1860 at Snow Hill now Furman Alabama son of Dabney and Martha Simpson Palmer His ancestors on both sides were in America prior to the Revolution The Palmer family is of English stock and four brothers received large land grants in Virginia one as early as 1658 One of the family was an intimate friend of Patrick Henry and served as a sergeant in the American army Stephen Palmer grand father of Doctor Palmer was a native of Virginia where he married Juliet Hartwell They came to Alabama about 1825 settling in Wilcox County The maternal grandparents of Doctor Palmer were Thomas W and Civility Jackson Simpson who were born and married in South Carolina and set tled in Alabama about 1830 Dabney Palmer was born in Alabama He had a crippled foot and was rejected from service as a soldier in the Confederate army but he served the cause by developing salt mines and keeping the army supplied with salt for which he would not accept one cent On the contrary he paid all the costs of the operations of the mines a shining distinction from the profiteers of all wars He was a member of the State Legislature and was one of the influential factors in the Constitutional Convention of 1900"
