Normandy Hub _ Refurbished cone - a photo on Flickriver

            Because the cups are in very good condition, and I will be replacing the ball bearings, I also took a few minutes to refinish the cones.  

Mounting a spare axle in my drill press, I rotated the cones slowly (at 620 RPM) to minimize any heat build up and used 600 grit emery paper to smooth the bearing surface free of any signs of wear.  As seen in this photo, this cone is now MUCH smoother than the coarse original surface of the cone when new...  probably around the machining quality of a Campagnolo cone.  

If I used 1200 to 2000 grit paper, the cone would actually polish to a near mirror finish.   I think this is already excessive (obsessive) enough and it should more than match the machining of the bearing cup.   

With the new ball bearings, this should be a very smoothly spinning hub.
