Stronglight 49d _ Reassembled after cleaning

            After all of the individual parts were cleaned to remove surface oxidation and years of dried on grease and road grime, I think this crankset now looks very nice.  Because this time (for me a rare instance) I did not use a power buffer and polishing compound you can still see lots of shallow pitting.   I think this may be nicer than a perfectly refinished piece for use on a less than flawlessly restored old bike.  

I had only used a mild aluminum polishing cream (and a bit of Simichrome on a couple of the bolts and spacers).  The polish was just rubbed on with a cotton cloth and wiped off with scraps of a discarded T-shirt.  This photo was taken in shade; in bright reflective sunlight this is still a quite dazzling piece.
