Lead-Free Amoco, 1970

            Color-enhanced newspaper ad that appeared in the Minneapolis Star and other papers in the Midwest on or around November 23, 1970 answering frequently asked questions about the introduction of unleaded gasoline in the Midwest by Standard Oil Company (Indiana). Subsidiary American Oil Company had marketed unleaded gasoline on the east coast for decades, but they were the only major oil company to do so at the time. Soon, more companies were selling it as automobiles began to be made to take unleaded fuel only beginning with the 1971 model year.

It also was the introduction of the name Amoco to the region, as Standard-branded stations would gradually adopt it over the next decade.
