M&GN Ghost Mile Cross 1961-2021

            A nice combination of two things close to my heart. The M&GN and home turf. The Marriott's Way was my playground as a kid in the 1980's, a decade and a half after the trains had stopped trundling in and out of City for good.
 
Mile Cross Road Bridge is one of the three Norwich Corporation-built bridges that appeared as Norwich began to expand and begin to embrace the automobile. 

Somewhat Ironically the bridges were built large enough for two lines, just in case the railways expanded, but it was the very existence of these new roads that helped to kill off these little branch lines.

The line as it is today is probably far busier than it was in those final days of rail travel and the Marriott's Way today looked more like a combination of the Tour de France and the London Marathon, only where the competitors were blissfully unaware that they were being passed through by locomotives from the past.

Take this particular cyclist, who seemed completely unaware of the head-on collision he was about to have with a J17 and its brake van as it headed out of City, Passing under Mile Cross Road back in 1961 some 60 years ago.
