The Warrior - a photo on Flickriver

The Warrior

            While on our Grand Avenue photowalk last Saturday, we encountered this gentleman in his wheelchair, accompanied by two younger men.  When the old guy saw us, his face lit up and he said "Hey, take my picture!"

I invited his two buddies to get in the picture with him but only one of them was willing to participate.  As I was positioning the tripod, he told us "I am the Warrior!"

He told us how he had come across "the river", and that he had served in both the Marines and the Navy. He spoke a little Japanese (at least he told us it was Japanese...I wouldn't know.)

He took an intense interest in the handmade silver jewelry that both I and my husband were wearing (my husband makes silver jewelry and does lapidary work). He had us both take off the rings we were wearing so he could examine them more closely, and he talked about the quality of the silver and the turquoise stone.

After we took a few shots and talked a little bit, he asked for some cash, and Andy gave him some. That may or may not have been helpful to him, but he certainly made our photowalk a little more colorful!
