Cathedral on the hill - a photo on Flickriver

            The climb to the Castle on top of the hill leads you to the Cathedral of Santa Maria Maior de Lisboa.  This ancient and beautiful church was a rest stop for walkers like me and a source of great interest for many!

The oldest church in the city is the seat of the Patriarchate of Lisbon. Built in 1147, the cathedral has survived many earthquakes and has been modified, renovated and restored several times. It is nowadays a mix of different architectural styles. It has been classified as a National Monument since 1910.
