            The 1956-built one-of-a-kind Sydney inner-harbour ferry Kooleen in dry dock during her annual refit @ Balmain Maintenance Yard.

The 'one-of-a-kind' bit relates more or less to this vessel's general unpopularity with Sydney Harbour's ferry travellers following her introduction in the mid 1950s.   She was small, noisy and had absolutely no outside seating.  Her intended sisters never eventuated, and Kooleen remained the proverbial orphan to the end of her days.

This graving dock  -  located in the Balmain Ferry Maintenance Yard @ the bottom of Waterview St Balmain  -  was excavated and constructed sometime during the 1970s for the specific purpose of dry docking Sydney's ferries.   All but the big Manly Ferries could fit.
