            The veteran Sydney Harbour ferries Kanangra (left, 1912) and Kameruka (right, 1913) off Northern Sydney's Cremorne Point.  The Eastern Suburbs across the Harbour in the distance form the backdrop to this 1980 image.

Both of these remarkable Australian-built vessels would enjoy working careers on Sydney Harbour in excess of 70 years.   Sadly the timber-hulled Kameruka is no longer with us - having been broken up after sinking at her moorings in 1986, two years after her 1984 retirement.

The steel-hulled Kanangra however - built locally here in Sydney in 1912 by Morts Dock @ their Woolwich yard - is still afloat and still here on Sydney Harbour in 2021.   She is currently undergoing preservation and restoration by the Sydney Heritage Fleet in Rozelle Bay.

It is the SHF's intention it is to restore the magnificent and historic Kanangra to full operating condition - and to retain her and operate her here in Sydney.
