The Series 17.0-1 Prussian S 10 number 17 008.

            The Prussian State Railways (Preußische Staatseisenbahnen) Class S 10 covered all express locomotives with a 2'C wheel arrangement.

008 was built in first of the S 10 series, simply known as the S 10. They were built by Schwartzkopff (later Berliner Machinenbau AG or BMAG) as a development of the Prussian P8 (see previous post for an example) to cope with increased demand at the beginning of the 20th century.

of these would be built, however, they suffered poor fuel efficiency compared with the other S 10 series locomotives. This led to the class, named Series 17.0-1 by Deutsche Reichsbahn to withdraw the majority of the class by 1935, with the remaining locomotives serving in a very limited capacity during the Second World War before the final example was withdrawn in 1954.

008, originally KED Breslau number 1008 was built in 1911 and is now a sectioned exhibit, displaying the internal workings of the S 10 at the Deutsches Technikmuseum in Berlin.
