            The Murraygate in the summer of 1987, at a time when 'outmoded retail premises' were being replaced.

Richard Shops' building on the left was no loss: it was actually two storeys, with a sculptured blind screen wall made up to four-floor height. Nothing like that would get past the council's planning committee nowadays; would it? 

A more lamentable act of destruction was applied to the four-storey tenement next door, one of the last pre-Victorian buildings of the old Murraygate.
