Ruins of Chateau Maires - a photo on Flickriver

            The castle in Maříž (Maires) was built in 1717 as a reconstruction of the local 14th Century stronghold. It underwent neogothical modernizations in the 19th Century, but the times after WW2 brought a sad end to this beuatiful historic building. After many different uses in the communist era, it´s destruction began in the 70ies when insensitive construction work disrupted the stability, caused watterlogging, and soon the ceilings collapsed. Later the castle was burned for a war movie scene, and was slowly disassembled for building materials. Today only a sad torso remains, reminding of how people can mistreat their own history.
