Ruins of Gutštejn Castle - a photo on Flickriver

            One of the most beautiful castle ruins in the country, founded around 1300 AD by the Gutštejns, who used the castle for some 250 years. It was a catholic bastion in the Hussite wars, and was besieged and seized by them in 1422, but after the war returned into the hands of their rightful owners, who became very wealthy through th e generosity of the king, whom they stood by. The Gutštejns did not live in the castle in the 16th Century (they had many other castles and towns), and one of them sold it (together with the bound lands) in 1549 to another wealthy family, which had no use for the old fort and soon abandoned it. The ruin underwent a complex restoration and conservation some years back, and is a safe and beautiful tourist attraction today.
