Ruins of Cimburk Castle - a photo on Flickriver

            Cimburk was one of a chain of guard castles alongside a important trade route between northern and southern Europe. Built in 12th Century from a wooden keep, it always has been in midst of the history, heavily fortified in late 15th Century and used as a strongpoint against invasions. 88 dragoons succesfuly held the castle against Swedes in the 30 year war, after 1646 it was held in limited reserve, and all upkeep has been halted in 1763. A flash ignited a massive fire in 1776 and the castle burned out, without the rooftops the dissolution continued and the town population took everything usable. But much still remains from the old times, and it´s a pretty romantic place.
