My Familiar Conversation with a Stranger

            A few weeks after my dad died I was in his hometown to visit family.  It was springtime so I was taking photos of wildflowers along a rural road when the man pictured above stopped his pickup truck and asked me what in the world I was doing in the ditch.  We proceeded to have a warm, friendly chat in which he encouraged me to continue pursuing photography and all of my life passions.  It was an easy, casual conversation, but when he drove away I was left feeling as if I'd just had a great visit with my dad.
