Ålesund, beautiful port town - a photo on Flickriver

            Beautiful port town in Norway.
Ålesund has the most important fishing harbour in Norway. There are also shipyards for fishing fleet ships and oil drilling ships in the North Sea.
But,moreover, this town is known as 'jugendstil' (Art Nouveau in German). 
In the night of 23 January 1904,a great fire broke out in the town.
After the fire,Liberal aid was provided to Ålesund both from within Norway and from abroad. Especially,Kaiser Wilhelm of Germany, a frequent visitor to the Storfjord, expressed a personal concern for the plight of the population. As a result, much of the international help was from Germany.Young architects from Trondheim could use the money in abundance.  This town was rebuilt in the then contemporary Jugendstil.
