A sight no more...

When news came that a 3-story apartment building exploded in Minneapolis on the first day of 2014, little did I realize at the time the building was the same one I stood across from just a couple months before, silently shooting as the local Somalis crossed a brightly painted facade on their way to and from the Otanga Grocery.

At least 14 people were injured in the blast, six of them critically. I wish them all a full and speedy recovery. The building is all but totaled, and in danger of caving in. Firefighters braved immensely cold temperatures to keep the blaze under control, for it could have quickly spread to the surrounding buildings as well as the nearby high-rise apartment towers.

The building may no longer exist. But I felt a pull to post this photo as a testament to what once stood, and the typical sight I viewed from across the street.
