2021 - Vancouver - Commercial Drive Sign - 1 of 4

            Commercial Drive (CD) in Vancouver's Grandview-Woodlands is possibly the last remaining commercial street in Vancouver that has not, so far, succumbed to the raze and build a condo craze.

Between Broadway and Venables, 15 city blocks, there are few chain stores, but lots of independent retailers, coffee shops, restaurants, etc. with an interesting mix of architecture characteristic of early Vancouver.

The street also has many signs indicative of its independent nature.  Here is #1 of 4.

MARCELLO PIZZERIA:
1986 Patti and Marcello Lombardo opened Lombardo in the small  Mercado mall on Commercial Drive.

In 1999, Chef Marcello Lombardo founded Marcello Ristorante and Pizzeria.

After a protracted and bitter divorce, Marcello left Lombardo  to open his own operation, Marcello's and Patti was left to run the existing business.  The two restaurants are about two blocks apart on opposite sides of CD.  Lombardo's is now under new ownership.

At Lombardos', Chef Marcello was the first to bring a wood fire oven pizzeria to Little Italy, and the first to bring homemade pastas and focaccia bread to Vancouver — he has contributed significantly to Little Italy’s culture and history in the city.

Tuesdays & Wednesdays, it's half price bottles of wine and the pizza is good - woohoo!
