2024 - Vancouver - Mount Pleasant Vintage & Provisions Mural

            There is a newish bar and restaurant open on West 6th Avenue at Manitoba Street in Vancouver's Mount Pleasant - Vintage & Provisions.

Mount Pleasant Vintage & Provisions owned by Cameron Bogue and partners, opened in 2022, is located behind the entrance of "Coulter House" at 67 W 6th Ave  a historic landmark built in 1902 with its original facade protected.

All that remains of the original house are the walls.  The store once served as the community’s grocer until shuttering in the late 70’s.

This smacks of heritage protection run amok IMO.

The bar/restaurant features a custom giant wood-fire hearth and roaster within the open kitchen there is a Grillworks Infierno, the Rolls-Royce of wood-fired grills.

MURAL
Steen Jones a Melbourne  Australia  based artist was commissioned to design and paint 3 murals (and uniforms) for Vintage & Provisions.

This the first and prime mural in the front of the venue and inspired by the classic ‘Postcard’ style artwork as a tribute to Mt Pleasant. 

Jones also runs a clothing brand called Few and Far Collective that features his and others tattoo inspired artwork.

COULTER HOUSE:
William Henry Coulter, who built the house was a millworker. 

Later owners include a tinsmith, an upholsterer and a shoe store clerk.

1912, Sidney Boutall built and ran a neighbourhood grocery store in the front of the property and had the forethought to include sleeping quarters. 

The store lasted until 1978, and for much of its existence was known as the Sixth Avenue Grocery.
