Glaucous-winged Gull - a photo on Flickriver

            Glaucous-winged Gull is very much a "sea gull", being largely found at the coast.  It breeds in the North Pacific from Alaska down to Washington but in winter it wanders more widely, including Baja where I photographed this one year-old bird.  It is very closely related to the Western Gull, and it hybridises readily where the two species overlap.  So much so, it is often difficult to find one in the overlap zone that looks 100% pure.  But this pale individual looks good for a pure Glaucous-winged Gull.  This one was at sea, many miles from the coast off the Baja peninsula.
