B-24J Wolf Pack - a photo on Flickriver

B-24J Wolf Pack

            B-24J S/N 42-73476 of the 403rd Bomb Squad, 43rd Bomb Group, 5th Air Force.

Wolf Pack arrived in Australia as a replacement plane in late November 1943. 

It was assigned to the 43rd in January 1944, and was the last B-24 to be assigned to the unit in factory camouflage paint. All replacement planes which came after it were bare metal.

It is assumed that the nose art was already painted on the plane while it was still in the US, done so by the crew which ferried it to Australia.

Due to the chalk markings on the plane containing dates, the photo was likely taken during December 1943, while the plane was still at the depot in Townsville, Queensland, Australia.

Wolf Pack was salvaged 7 June 1945 after flying 100 missions.
