Portrait of a Woman - a photo on Flickriver

This is my first real attempt at taking a portrait.  We were playing around with the flash and some other lighting, but I wasn't getting the results I had hoped for (see some examples below).  At this time of year there's about 15 minutes in the afternoon when the sun comes in my window before hiding behind the building across the street, and this picture is the result of that light -- it worked great I think.

I'm pretty happy with this shot, in fact, I was so happy with it at first that I rushed the touch up and crop.  I may re-post this after I do some more tinkering.  (I have finished tinkering and this is the re-post.)

Please feel free to criticize as I am somewhat new to photography, and as I stated above, this is a first try at a real portrait.  Any comments and or critiques may help me out a lot.
