The Battery Park Hotel, Asheville - a photo on Flickriver

            The first hotel on this site was built in 1886 by Colonel Frank Cove and became a popular spot with socialites who sough the cool mountain air of Asheville.  Edwin W. Grove, who was responsible for building the Grove Park Inn and the Grove Arcade nearby, demolished the older hotel and commissioned architect William Lee Stoddart of New York to build the new Battery Park Hotel on the site of the older Victorian building.  The hotel closed in 1972, but has served as an apartment building for the Asheville Housing Authority since then.  It would be great to see the building fully restored and used as a hotel again, though it is in good condition today.
