Lobby, the Battery Park Hotel, Asheville

A view of the lobby of the Battery Park Hotel in Asheville. Now a retirement home, the Battery Park Hotel was built in 1924 and was designed by William Lee Stoddart of New York. It replaced a Victorian confection which had been built in 1886. Thomas Wolfe, among others, did not care for the eclectic style of the new building, calling it "stamped out of the same mold, as if by some gigantic biscuit-cutter of hotels that had produced a thousand others like it all over the country." It is certainly true that Stoddart was a prolific designer of hotels.

I was not able to get pictures of any of the other parts of the building, though I understand that the rooftop ballroom is still there. More history in the link below...
