Zanzibar - a photo on Flickriver

Zanzibar

            A once extremely popular night club on the waterfront in Washington, D.C., Zanzibar was enormous and had a huge following.  This area is about to have a nearly total redevelopment which will bring expensive new condos, apartments, shops and restaurants.  The club itself may even reappear in a new form.  Much of what will be replaced dates from the 1960s and has little or no architectural interest.  Trust me, there isn't any Mid-Century Modern under threat here.  I couldn't resist the plastic orange palm tree though.  The colors have not been toyed with as much as you'd suspect.  Who can resist a bright orange plastic palm tree?
