Chesapeake and Ohio (Amtrak) Station, Williamsburg

            Built in 1935 to replace an earlier station near the site of the Governor's Palace.  John D. Rockefeller provided the funds for the construction of the station building.  The Chesapeake and Ohio ran the George Washington, the Fast Flying Virginian and the Resort Special trains through here.  Amtrak service continued in 1971, though it was generally limited to the train known as the Colonial with service south to Newport News and north to Boston.  The station was repaired and restored a few years ago.
