awhile back we got free tickets to see "the king starring trent carlini" at the las vegas hotel (formerly the las vegas hilton). i was glad they were gratis. i wasn't the only one who wasn't very impressed. several sites had so-so reviews. here's one that wraps up the way we felt about the show.

I was looking forward to this show more than just about anything in Vegas. The description and promotional items over-hype the quality of the show. It's obvious Trent loves the memory of Elvis and, at one time in his life, looked and sounded like the king. He has mastered certain aspects of his moves and performance playfullness. But, the show overall is worn out. When he first appears, the makeup is so caked on, it looks like a mask. He sings over a backtrack to cover his tired voice which is evident when he speaks between songs. The sheets used to reveal the various sections of the show are cheap and it looks like stage equipment is piled up backstage in clear view of the audience. The overall show, in every aspect except one, his dancer, is a worn out, thrown together mockery of itself. Time for Trent to retire and stop trying to hold together a performance that comes across as a rusty old pink cadillac held together by duct tape. How about an Elvis show TRULY produced to give the audience the experience of an actual Elvis concert?
