1959/06/29 - 05. TALIESIN at TyB.

            1959/06/29.  My first ride on the 2ft gauge Festiniog Railway in North Wales and my first sight of a Double Fairlie.  This was during a trainspotting tour of Wales in the Summer of 1959 and this is 0-4-4-0T TALIESIN taking water on arrival at Tan y Bwlch which was then the upper terminus; trains had been extended to there from Penrhyndeudraeth the previous year.  

Re-named EARL OF MERIONETH in 1961, it later reverted to its original name of LIVINGSTON THOMPSON on withdrawal from service and it can now be seen on display at the National Railway Museum at York.  

The name TALIESIN is now carried by the Single Fairlie 0-4-4T that was built in 1999 to replace the original that was scrapped in the 1930s.
