Stormy Sunrise Over the Wallowas Along The Hells Canyon Scenic Byway in Baker County Oregon

A beautiful spring morning along the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway, with the sun just coming up on the Wallowas, one of the 7 Wonders of Oregon

Always one of our favorite drives for taking in the majestic scenery of Eastern Oregon and watching wildlife along the way, Oregon’s Hells Canyon Scenic Byway is a loop that encircles the Wallowa Mountains, beginning and ending at Baker City. Small towns along the way including Richland, and Halfway, offer visitor services and a chance to explore small town Americana While exploring a diverse and scenic landscape including the deepest river gorge in North America, lush valleys, rolling farmlands, and the spectacular Wallowa Mountains.

From Baker City the byway follows the Powder River until it reaches the Snake River and Brownlee Reservoir in Richland and then follows the Snake River into the bottom of Hells Canyon with spectacular views as the road parallels the river along the rugged cliffs of the canyon walls
This section of the byway is open year round and offers visitors some amazing scenery and spectacular views of the Wallowas and Hells Canyon.
