Ripe nuts of native Snowdrop Bush (Styrax redivivus)

Here are ripe nuts of native Snowdrop Bush (Styrax redivivus) in the Styracaceae plant family. They are proper tree nuts with a husk on the outside, and then a hard shell which you can crack to expose the nut meat inside. I've tasted them, and they seem edible and good. (I've only nibbled, so caveat emptor if you want to eat a lot of them!) What a remarkable shrub - it grows in both woodland and chaparral, it has gorgeous white flowers (see this photo), deciduous leaves that turn golden in the fall (see my [Previous] photo), and it has these interesting edible nuts.
