I watched this nail being hand forged by the Blacksmith at the Fortress of Louisbourg National Historic Site about 30 years ago.  It was a cold, wet, miserable day and I was the only one watching him work his magic.  When he was finished with it he gave it to me.  I don't think he was suppose to give it away but he did give it with a nod, a wink, and a sly smile.  It was our little secret until now.
