Once upon a time, a very long time ago, my mother knit me a pair of mittens that were attached to a string that travelled up one sleeve, across the back, and down the other sleeve.  

She called them Unforgettable Mittens.  She knew that without that string those mittens would have been forgotten somewhere and lost.  

Those mittens are long gone but I've never forgotten them.
