Highgate Underground Station, London, England

Normal operations resume some would say ;-). Delving through some of my images that I have not had chance to process yet. When I visited Highgate Underground station I found this little staircase that leads up to the surface and what caught my eye at first is the undulating lines just above the tiles, this is not often seen in other tube stations. I had this in my minds eye of doing it high key and its worked out better than I thought. The black tiles on the bottom part are great and the subtle shadow on them is divine, I never noticed this when I first took this image.

Another part of this image that I really like is that on the surface it looks very clinical and tidy but if you delve deeper and look closer its shows the staircase's honesty. Look at the worn step half-way down from the countless number of passengers shoes walking on it and also the difference in tones on the metal step guards. For me this is such a great juxtaposition which I really enjoy.

Location Information
Highgate tube station is a London Underground station on Archway Road, Highgate, not far from Highgate Village in north London. It is on the High Barnet branch of the Northern Line, between Archway and East Finchley, in Travelcard Zone 3.

The present low-level station was built in the late 1930s as part of London Underground's Northern Heights plan. It is just part of the planned station but the advent of the Second World War postponed parts of the project and eventually led to its cancellation. The low-level station was built directly below the existing high-level London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) station.
