The Gherkin (aka 30 St Mary Axe), London, England

Another long exposure upload from my afternoon out with photographer and friend Richard Hurst. This image never intended to be as tightly cropped as it had alot more in the original image but I just couldn't make the angles of the buildings work for me, it just didn't feel right so I experimented a bit and came up with this, I hope you like it.

This is also a 13 stop exposure, I stacked my LEE Big Stopper and my LEE 0.9 ND Pro Glass giving me an even longer exposure than the Big Stopper by itself. The only draw back to this technique is that when using a wide angle lens, like my Sigma 10-20 it really does exaggerate the natural vignetting of the lens due to the longer exposure and the stacking of the filters. However I feel it works in this case, I would be very interested to see what you think and your opinions please :-)

Information
30 St Mary Axe (informally also known as "the Gherkin" and previously the Swiss Re Building) is a skyscraper in London's financial district, the City of London, completed in December 2003 and opened at the end of May 2004.

With 41 floors, the tower is 180 metres (591 ft) tall and stands on the site of the former Baltic Exchange, which was extensively damaged in 1992 by the explosion of a bomb placed by the Provisional IRA.

After the plans to build the Millennium Tower were dropped, 30 St Mary Axe was designed by Norman Foster and Arup engineers and was erected by Skanska in 2001–2003.

The building has become an iconic symbol of London and is one of the city's most widely recognised examples of modern architecture.
